What are the common faults of a 1. HDI engine?
The PSA/Ford developed 1. HDI engine can develop turbocharger oil supply issues caused by oil change neglect and also leaking fuel injector seals. The oil becomes contaminated with carbon and starves the turbocharger of oil. Problems with injectors in cars with a 1. HDI engine can lead to a number of complications, including engine malfunction and increased fuel consumption. Symptoms of a faulty injector, such as rough engine running or starting problems, are a signal that it is time to consider replacing injectors.
How long will a VW 1. TDI engine last?
Almost impossible to say but a well serviced engine should last well past 100 k miles and many more. The clutch/dmf, turbo, egr system etc are the biggest concern really on a diesel engine and can start to get expensive should problems occur. If it’s a DSG the box will cause issues before the engine will. Typically, diesel engines do last longer than gas engines. As we have seen above, with the right care a diesel engine can last for several hundred thousand miles to over a million, but a typical gas engine only has a lifespan of around 200,000 miles.
