Amarok competes in some global markets with comparable mid-size pickup trucks, such as the Toyota Hilux, Nissan Navara, Mitsubishi L200, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max and Chevrolet/Holden Colorado/S-10. The second-generation Amarok is based on the Ford Ranger. Why? Two reasons. First, the Amarok isn’t homologated for the US – and apparently can’t be without extensive re-engineering. Second, it’s too expensive for the US market.
