But the same drawbacks remain; the infotainment is flawed and quality could be better in places.
Is a Golf ETSI a hybrid?
The ‘mild’ hybrid element of this engine is very mild indeed. Far from being a conventional, full-hybrid, like a Toyota Corolla, a mild-hybrid uses a belt-integrated starter generator that acts as an alternator. Mild hybrids do save some fuel – they generally let the stop-start system kick in sooner, which reduces the time the engine is running, and by extension that saves fuel. But don’t expect a mild-hybrid car to slash your fuel bills versus a petrol or diesel car – the electrification really is mild.
