The 1. TSI is a reliable and fantastic engine when maintained properly imo. Outside of a leaking water pump or some being in need of walnut blasting (removing carbon buildup from intake manifold and valves, because of direct injection) there aren’t common big issues that come to my mind. L TSi engine known as the EA888 we are on version 3 in the MK7 Golf. Timing chain problems are an issue with this engine, even though the timing chain system has been designed to be fitted for the life of the vehicle and has no serviceable parts we are seeing problems.The 1. I would honestly avoid any TSI engine made before 2013. The ones post 2013 with a timing belt are mostly fine, so aim for those, although they were not available with the Mk6 Golf.
