Do VW still make the Sharan?
The VW Sharan was discontinued in the UK in 2021 but continued to be available elsewhere in Europe. However, in October 2022, the VW Sharan finally ended production in Portugal after more than a decade of production of the second generation model. Large MPVs come and go, but the benchmarks for the class remains the SEAT Alhambra, Ford Galaxy and Volkswagen Sharan trio. What is the replacement for the VW Sharan?
The first is a car VW is touting as the Sharan’s direct replacement – the Multivan. As its name suggests, it is more upright and van-like than the Sharan, but as it’s based on one of VW’s car platforms it retains the Sharan’s more car-like driving experience. Two of the most popular large MPVs are the Ford Galaxy and Volkswagen Sharan – each spanning more than 15 feet in length, which is about the same as a Giraffe’s height. They both offer shedloads of practicality, a massive boot (when the rear seats are folded flat) and lots of tech.The now-discontinued Volkswagen Sharan is larger than the Touran in every metric, but both serve a similar purpose for those who need large MPVs for dogs, people and luggage. You can find both used Volkswagen options at great prices on the pre-owned market – especially handy for the discontinued Sharan.
Is the Volkswagen Sharan 7 seater?

It has the same qualities and features as its larger sibling, and you’re more likely to find a newer one on the used market as VW discontinued the Sharan in 2022.
What replaced the Sharan?
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has revealed pricing and specifications for the new T7 Multivan, which will replace the existing Caravelle, Sharan and Touran people carriers. Instead of being positioned as a direct successor to the T6 Caravelle, the T7 Multivan is being pitched as an all-new model which will also replace VW’s Touran and Sharan MPVs. However, the facelifted T6 – the T6.
Which is better, Touran or Sharan?
The Sharan’s back seats offer more space, and it has a greater luggage capacity too. With the rear seats upright you get 300 litres, compared to 137 in the Touran. With the rear seats folded, you get a whopping 2,297 litres in the Sharan, 440 more than its sibling. Both fuel tanks, the 70L (18 US gallon) petrol tank and the 60L liquid gas tank combined, give the Sharan enough fuel to cover 730 km (454 mi) between refuels at an average fuel consumption of 9. L/100 km.
